Remy Hair Explained

What is Remy hair?

Remy hair is hair that has been collected by a hair donor, and is widely accepted to be the best type of hair to use for hair extensions. This is because Remy hair (also referred to as cuticle hair and raw hair) has a more natural appearance than other kinds of human hair extensions.

Why is Remy hair better than regular human hair extensions?

Most human hair sold in the hair extensions industry is heavily treated with chemicals. The cuticles are given an acid bath and covered with silicone, to give the hair a smooth and shiny look. However, the silicone gradually wears off as the hair is washed, which disturbs the cuticles and causes the hair to become matted and tangled. Remy hair is different: the cuticles are aligned without the use of silicone, which gives the hair a long-lasting healthy appearance. The cuticles will remain intact when the hair is washed, and the hair extensions will retain their smooth, shiny and natural appearance.

What types of Remy hair extensions do you sell?

We sell three kinds of Remy hair extensions: clip in, pre bonded and weft. Clip in is as it sounds: a number of pieces of hair which have clips attached to one end which are then clipped to your own hair. Pre bonded hair extensions are separated into strands ready for application with keratin glue on the tips. Weft hair is applied in rows across the head with adhesive – alternatively it can be sewed into braids.

What colour hair extensions should I buy?

Your hair extensions need to match or complement the colour of your existing hair. It is important to be relatively conservative with the colour if your hair extensions are to look realistic. Use our free colour matching service to determine the best colour for your Remy hair extensions.

Which of the different weights (75g, 100g and 130g) should I choose?

The heavier the set, the more volume you will have. For this reason we recommend the heavier weights for people whose hair is naturally quite thin, whereas the lighter weight would suit people with naturally thick hair. The quality of the hair is exactly the same: the weights are purely to do with quantity.

Will hair extensions damage my hair?

Fake hair extensions can cause considerable damage to your hair, however human hair extensions, including wefts and clips, do not damage the hair if worn correctly.

Can I dye my Remy hair extensions?

It is possible to dye human extensions, although we advise caution because of the lack of natural oils in hair extensions. This will cause the hair to dry out more quickly than usual.

Can I wash my Remy hair extensions?

Yes, however it is important to be extremely careful not to tangle the hair. The best way to wash your Remy hair extensions is to dip them in some lukewarm water, then apply special hair extension shampoo. Rinse your hair extensions in some clean lukewarm water, remembering to squeeze them gently to get rid of any excess water. Then shake and leave to dry at room temperature.

Can I curl or straighten my Remy hair extensions?

As Remy hair is human hair, it can be straightened or curled without any problem.

How long will my Remy hair extensions last?

This depends entirely on how well you look after them. Remy hair is very high quality, so depending on how frequently you wear your hair extensions and how well you look after them, they can potentially last for several years.
